About Jason Newfield

For the past two decades, my legal career has been dedicated to fighting for people who have lost their ability to work, care for their families and engage in many of life’s activities, only to be told by large, impersonal, and powerful long term disability insurance companies that their claims are being denied.

My practice is devoted to aggressively representing claimants in disability insurance claims and litigation, including ERISA, private and governmental policies of short and long term disability, long-term care, life insurance and health plans.

We represent clients throughout the country and act as local counsel to many firms who bring cases in our jurisdictions.

This drive is rooted in my being the proud son of Holocaust survivors. Fighting for people who need help and taking on those in power is in my DNA.  Helping the deserved and fighting for justice drives me toward this niche practice.  Having worked with thousands of claimants, and secured hundreds of millions of dollars for clients, I know my clients would much prefer to continue working, be productive and support their families, rather than be reduced to a shell of themselves, physically, financially, and often emotionally.

My passion for fighting for those in need, coupled with the compassion developed for clients for more than two decades, is this firm’s mission: securing our clients’ financial relief and providing them with peace of mind. These years of developing and honing a formula for success allows us to get the vast majority of our clients paid and avoids the need for expensive and protracted litigation.

Where necessary, I aggressively litigate denied claims in Federal Courts throughout the country. This law firm represents all occupations, from doctors, dentists and other medical professionals to field workers and administrative workers, and occupations across the spectrum and across all physical demands.

I have been involved in a host of published decisions from Courts throughout the United States, from both state and federal courts. I’m proud of the peer recognitions I’ve received, including an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell and having been selected as a Super Lawyer from 2013-the present.

Over the years, I’ve written numerous articles for medical journals and advocacy groups, including the CFIDS Chronicle, Interstitial Cystitis Newsletter,Podiatry Management, and Chiropractic Economics, and many others (see below).

I was proud to serve as a member of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committee, a federal committee which advises the US Department of Health and Human Services regarding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a medical condition of particular passion to me.

I’ve presented lectures to medical organizations about the disability claims process and have been a Physician Educator to medical providers for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients. For several years (before Covid), I was an annual presenter at the American Conference Institute – Disability Claims conferences and have been a lecturer for ALI-ABA regarding the claim process for LTD claims.

I received my J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law and was a member of the Hofstra Law Review. I am currently admitted to practice law in New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, the federal courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, District of Connecticut, and Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Second and Fourth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Who is Jason Newfield When He’s Not Battling for his Clients?

I have several passions outside of work. My family is critical to me and I am blessed to live next door to my brother and his family. The Newfield compound is rich in love and fresh ideas and perspectives spanning generations. I spend time in my yard working as a landscape designer – and enjoy spending others’ money designing their yards. Lastly, for many years (into my 50s) I played men’s soccer (goalie), which is a metaphor for who I am in seeking out challenges and enjoying the pressure. Now, I just watch and study the goalie for each goal, remembering times.

I spent many years volunteering as a coach of youth sports, including men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s basketball.

You don’t need to be best friends with your lawyer – but you do need to connect with them in this arena, as clients need to know they have an advocate in their corner. And as importantly, you do need to be confident that they are going to do everything in their power to secure your disability benefits. I do not meet all my clients in person, but our connections are often as powerful as if we were sitting next to each other. With technology, often we are, and we are available through various technological means for your convenience.

Having worked in other areas of the law, I know this is not an easy practice area. We are working with/against big companies with limitless resources. Often, they have little to lose when denying a claim. The courts do not eagerly embrace these cases, and clients often have limited choices due to financial constraints. Keeping clients as involved and informed as they want makes sense to me – full transparency is integral to the success of this law firm. You do not have to go it alone.
